Find Your Path in IT with ISACA Certification Exams

It may seem at a glance that ISACA, a nonprofit, independent global association, tempts fate engaging in the development, use and adoption of knowledge and practices for information systems that are of no interest. But indeed, these knowledge and practice are totally accepted and industry-leading. Firstly, known as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, now ISACA uses this acronym only in order to illustrate a wide range of IT governance professionals it serves.

ISACA company was founded in United States in 1967, when a group of people working on auditing controls in computer systems became extremely critical of the operations their organizations carried out. They cast a glance at the affairs of the companies they worked at and fell out of favor speaking in recommendation of a need for a centralized source of information and guidance in the field. Believe it or not, but in 1969, Stuart Tyrnauer, an employee of the (then) Douglas Aircraft Company, incorporated the group as the EDP Auditors Association (EDPAA). In fact, Tyrnauer served as the body's founding chairman for the first three years. In 1976 the association formed an education foundation to go to all lengths to undertake large-scale research efforts to expand the knowledge of and value accorded to the fields of governance and control of information technology.

The association began the world as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association in 1994. It is self-evident that by 2008 the organization had dropped its long title and branded itself as ISACA. Now ISACA serves over 110,000 constituents (professionals and members holding ISACA certifications) in more than 180 countries from all over the globe. The job titles of members are following: IS auditor, educator, consultant, regulator, IS security professional, internal auditor and chief information officer. They work in almost all industry categories and don’t play the fool. There is a network of ISACA chapters with more than 200 chapters established in about 180 countries. Chapters provide education, advocacy, resource sharing, networking and a lot of other benefits.

One shouldn’t take for granted that ISACA provides practical guidance, benchmarks and other useful tools for all the enterprises that make use of information systems. Through its comprehensive guidance and services, ISACA sets the pace of the development and defines the roles of information systems security, governance, audit and assurance professionals in many countries. The COBIT framework and the CISA, CGEIT, CISM, and CRISC certifications are ISACA brands leading the way, respected and used by these professionals doing a good turn to their enterprises.

ISACA’s members are always of great value, and those members who step forward and volunteer to make a contribution to the association’s work provide particular service. First of all, volunteers make important contacts, consolidate leadership skills, contribute to the profession’s knowledge base, learn more about the organization, and help fellow members improve their professionalism.

For the most part, ISACA created the ITGI to concentrate on original research, resources, publications, and symposia concerning IT governance and similar topics. In addition to the work conducted by the ITGI, ISACA addresses the topic through a regular column in, and occasional dedicated issues of, the ISACA Journal, conference sessions and tracks, and education courses. It is well known that ISACA’s press room is a center for news, news releases (including archives), media contacts, background information, and instances of ISACA featured in other media. It would be unfair not to mention that fact that additional information and select news releases are also available in 11 languages besides English.
